Commuting
Hopefully going to start with more entries. I have a few drafted from the end of 2005, but I'm going to do my best to input more frequent entries, even if they don't have pictures or any profound thoughts.
Today, I wanted to write about my mid-week home. My current job has me commuting out to the sticks doing some very interesting telecom work. Outside of the office, though, the town of Newbury is classic. Last night I went with some co-workers to a place that essentially functions as a community center. We went for ballroom dancing classes, and I was surprised to discover that this was the same location where I play soccer on Monday nights. I guess I shouldn't have been that surprised. The place was absolutely priceless. People ranged from 18-80, and all of the instructors were volunteers. They had a disco ball and the kind of lighting you'd expect at an eight grade mixer.
Then this morning, I met the other american in newbury. Leslie works at Starbucks and hails from Puerto Rico by way of Los Angeles. Seems like she has been following her husband's job around for most of her life. But she's content to work there and happy to make friends in town. Reminds me of the kind of thing my mom would do. Something about her introduction reminded me that we really do live in a small town here, and it's quite amusing.
