Deep Thoughts From Alicante
On a short run yesterday, I found myself re-visiting the subject of motivation and direction. What drives us as humans, or more specifically, what drives me as an individual? My thoughts go back to the 5 days I spent in the desert where the direction I would go was generally determined by 1) the need to use or not use the bathroom, 2) where i could find comfortable temperatures (cool in the day and warm at night) 3) the quality of the music and 4) the attractiveness of the people at a given party. Given that 1 or 2 were not an issue, either 3 or 4 could keep you at a certain party for a while, but i´d generally get bored. Finding both meant staying there the whole night.
Now that I´m over in Europe with some time on my hands before starting work, I have begun to think about what drives me when I´m not at burningman. Most recently, I have rediscovered my enjoyment around entertaining others and seeing other people happy. Given that this vacation is mostly about me, I have been thinking about what plans I could put into action that would result in a scenario where I could easily entertain others. First thing that comes to mind is owning property that is ideal for entertaining (beach house, large family home with pool and yard, etc...). Since saving money to buy property like this while in London is going to be a significant challenge, I have moved on to a different environment. Lately, I have been spending time organizing a theme camp for burningman next year. One where all of my friends would feel comfortable. There is a lot of work and money that goes into a camp like this, so I don´t know if it´s going to happen or not, but it´s a fun exercise in architecture and creative design. Who knows if those will help me later in life, but they are fun to learn for now.
As I prepare for my 6 days of partying in Ibiza, I want to stop and recognize my mother for her emphasis on family. Since I have arrived in Europe, I have spoken to at least 5 family members (4 i never knew existing) and they have all helped me feel at home while being away from my home country. Thanks mom!
